Tabletop Ironing Board
I made myself a tabletop ironing board, and I love it. I want to show you a little more of my sewing room, it is very slowly coming together. I am really trying to make the most of my space, and squeeze all the function I can out of it.
I have been coveting these tabletop ironing boards forever!

And I finally made myself one, and now I don’t know how I lived without one.
I have anxiety and OCD, which both add up to some pretty incredible nesting abilities.
When I got insomnia with my last pregnancy, I kept getting in trouble from my husband. I would spend all night reorganizing the kitchen, I think he mostly got sick of me making so much noise and waking him up.
This pregnancy, I have really felt the need to reorganize weird places in my house. For example: the cold storage, the freezer, and all the clothes in the house.
You should see my list of sewing projects I want to get done before my baby comes in a month and a half. It is outrageous!
In my wild nesting craze, I found this scrap of wood in our cold storage the other day. It is roughly the size of a door (in fact, you could probably use an old door).
Step One – Gather Supplies
- Piece of wood
- Batting (preferably the heatproof kind, which I didn’t use)
- Fabric (I used an old sheet and then a decorative fabric on top to prevent wear)
Step Two – Staple and Snack
Staple the edges of everything separately, and made sure to pull everything extra tight as you go. Also if you have a bowl of cold, crispy grapes, make sure to have that close by.
Step Three – Secure
Use some L-brackets to attach it to your table.
I did notice that it was a little puffy when I finished, but I just steamed it and it flattened all out.
I have kept my other ironing board, to iron clothing if I ever feel like doing that. And I also have a little tiny ironing board to get inside sleeves and pant legs.
Having such a big ironing board it so much more useful than my last one that liked to tip over. I can set my whole project on it and still have room to iron each piece at a time.
Do you think you could use a gigantic tabletop ironing board?
